Study 11

By John Thiel

The Hebrew sanctuary was a symbol and how it contained the prophetic symbolism of the realities of the plan of salvation.  We studied the work of Jesus as he gave his life at the cross and how he worked as a priest for a period of time in the holy place and the most holy place. The message of these last days since 1844 is the Day of Atonement and of Jesus our high priest examining our lives in the judgment. (more…)

What does the sound of music have to do with the subject of God’s love? We hear different sounds all the time. Sounds that relate to different circumstances, moods, events and emotions. We hear the shrieks of terror, we hear blood curdling cries, and we hear soft sensational golden throated love songs. We hear the sounds of delight and hear the sounds of challenge and conflict. To discern the sound for relevant situations is very imperative. (more…)

When we study the scriptures we find a principle of teaching and its teaching through metaphor or similitude’s through types and lessons. The Israel of old is the biggest play of redemption. How many years has it taken for God to show us these things? Even when Jesus spoke he spoke in parables and allegories and these ways of teaching so we could take it up not through long big words but through simple lessons. It didn’t matter what country you came from, these parables everyone could relate to. This is how the bible teaches. Through metaphor, symbolism and through parables. (more…)

Study 13

By John Thiel

On the Day of Atonement when our life comes up before the Lord in the most holy place and we are being judged it is a very serious occasion.  It is a life and death hour of judgement.  As it is so serious and far reaching, the antitypical Day of Atonement was given for us to understand they were to fast, pray and examine themselves closely.  Since 1844 that fast was represented to us to be the health reform. 12. The Old and the New Covenant

By John Thiel

Jesus became a ransom to pay out the captives from sin and death. Though kidnapped and held in captivity to sin and to death by Satan, the ransom was paid to release us. The manner in which Jesus accomplished this was that he himself became a captive of the strong man. Jesus entered into the strong man’s house and he came into the captivity and was held in a body of sinful flesh. It was through this process that he was entombed into death but he broke the fetters of both these captivating forces. He broke the fetters of sin in the flesh and he broke the fetters of death because in him dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. (more…)

Emmanuel God With Us

By John Thiel

Download in Word format – http://www.scribd.com/doc/16813184/Emmanuel-God-With-Us

1. INTRODUCTION

To be saved from sins involves an intelligent interrelationship of sinful humanity with Divinity which of necessity must include a conscious process of detection, overcoming and eradication of sin.

The work of gaining salvation is one of co-partnership, a joint operation. There is to be co-operation between God and the repentant sinner. This is necessary for the formation of right principles in the character. Man is to make earnest efforts to overcome that which hinders him from attaining to perfection. But he is wholly dependent upon God for success. Human effort of itself is not sufficient. Without the aid of divine power it avails nothing. God works and man works. Resistance of temptation must come from man, who must draw his power from God. On the one side there is infinite wisdom, compassion and power; on the other, weakness, sinfulness, absolute helplessness. Acts of the Apostles page 482 (more…)

We are in need of trusting Jesus as Satan is going about seeking who he can destroy. I have seen very strong spiritual people being tossed about especially as they discover more and more their sinfulness. Not surprising as the nearer we come to Jesus the more distinctly we will see our sinfulness. This is a message that we need to remind ourselves continually that we need to believe. I find myself having to remind even the strongest believers today of this message.

When our lives are illuminated by Jesus we see ourselves as we really are. We keep on feeling oppressed. We keep feeling that I’m too sinful and that I have no hope because I see that my sins are so severe. They are part of my very being, my sinful flesh. (more…)

As we think of baptism it is dying and rising with Jesus. What a contract, what a covenant to make. When we think of covenants and contracts, we think of making such things with an item or a scenario that is valuable. Many people today want you to sign up for things and make a contract and there may be no value in it so we push it away. Sometimes there comes across a valuable item and we want to make a contract in that. Or an oath or a covenant to have benefits of what that is offering. Indeed that is what baptism is. A contract, a covenant. (more…)

Are You A Protestant?

By John Thiel

I ask the question, are you a Protestant?  If we want to know what it means to be a Protestant, study Protestantism.  As you look this subject there are some very pertinent messages in Revelation.  In the study of the seven churches Jesus speaks to his faithful children.  You will notice that the messages that were given in the successive generations can be applicable to us now as they were given to churches of the past.  There are some points I’d like to touch on in Revelation.

Balam thought the best way to get the booty from the king was to corrupt Israel and he did that.  He brought in the women from outside.  He brought in sacrificing to idols to accept the ways around them.  This is what the Christian church in the time of Pergamos was falling into.  A worldly flood was coming into the church.  This is as much as important for us to understand it so won’t happen to us and also so that there won’t be a cause for us to fall. As we beheld the Godhead at work for us our previous studies, did we not desire to enter into a discipleship with God?  We are to come to the point where justification takes deep root inside of our heart.

We have no righteousness of our own with which to meet the claims of the law of God. But Christ has made a way of escape for us. He lived on earth amid trials and temptations such as we have to meet. He lived a sinless life. He died for us, and now He offers to take our sins and give us His righteousness. If you give yourself to Him, and accept Him as your Saviour, then, sinful as your life may have been, for His sake you are accounted righteous. Christ’s character stands in place of your character, and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned.  {SC 62.2} (more…)

The Sanctuary Series

By John Thiel

In our last study we looked at the sanctuary of the heart and the court and the two apartments.  We saw the brain of the body was the two apartment sanctuary.  We will now enter into a more protracted study in reference to the physiology of the body as a whole. This study is precisely what the spirit of God has brought to the attention of those who are meant to be presenting God’s word;

The relation of the physical organism to the spiritual life is one of the most important branches of education. It should receive careful attention in the home and in the school. All need to become acquainted with their physical structure and the laws that control natural life. He who remains in willing ignorance of the laws of his physical being and who violates them through ignorance is sinning against God. All should place themselves in the best possible relation to life and health. Our habits should be brought under the control of a mind that is itself under the control of God.  {COL 348.1} (more…)

The Sanctuary Series

We have been studying the three sanctuaries;

  • The Hebrew sanctuary which was the tent that was set up in the wilderness and also Solomons Temple.
  • The heavenly sanctuary.
  • The body temple sanctuary.

The sanctuary on earth was a copy of the one in heaven. The true sanctuary that the Lord pitched and not man.  Jesus said that he was going to go be with his father to prepare a place for us.  Jesus said destroy this temple and he would raise it again in three days as he was referring to his body temple.

Justification by faith is another dimension in our apprentice to Christ.  In our last study we learnt what is repentance is. Jesus showed us how to repent by him himself repenting;

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The repentance is always applied to someone who is a sinner. Jesus has come not to call the righteous but sinners. The provision for what he has called us to in the gospel is found in Romans;

Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (more…)

The latter rain and the loud cry and the effect of the loud cry on the people impose a reaction upon those who hear it.  Especially those who don’t want to hear it so that Sunday laws come into action.  You can see how those three subjects are all interlocking in their effect. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

These precious words carry a vast field of relationship understanding.  The love of our friend Jesus Christ was of such a dimension that when our great need was recognised, he responded to it and did what we craved for.  The fulfillment that I yearn for, he responded to just like a friend would. The price that he paid for that was the whole part of self sacrifice just for me.  He then says – ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you. (more…)

The practical experience of the everlasting gospel is an apprenticeship that is a life-time work of sanctification. God varies His training in our apprenticeship according to His permissive and perfect will. We sometimes want things our own way in the sanctification experience so God lets us have our way until we come to the point where we are really suffering and then He says, this is the way I want you to go.

As we are living under the three angels’ messages and so close to the end, we need more information so we can hasten our learning experience. To hasten our submission to God’s perfect will instead of His permissive will is required as there is not much time left. (more…)

The Sanctuary Series

The sanctuary relates to our salvation.  We have studied the meaning of the different furniture.  The courtyard of the sanctuary had the altar of sacrifice which was where the animal was slain and represented the sacrifice of Jesus when he died on the cross as our sins slew him.  He was the lamb that was sacrificed.  If the sinner comes to the cross of Jesus they can release themselves by confessing all to him.

The priest ate part of that sacrifice and took the blood and sprinkled it in the holy place at altar of incense.  That is the way that the sins of every sinner were through Christ was recorded and transferred in the sanctuary with pardon written against their sins. (more…)

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.

12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.

Little children like to ask why. But they are often told to stop asking questions. They never know why and they never know why not. As they grow, why has but one place in their life. Everybody else is doing it so why can’t we? What are you doing? Why are you doing it? This is a good question. We live in a world of over 6 billion people. Over 6 billion brains yet how many use them. How many really stop to think why? To reason from cause to effect. Nobodies taught it anymore. The homes don’t teach it. The schools don’t teach it. You don’t learn it in the work place. The government won’t teach it, parents don’t teach it and neither do the churches teach to reason from cause to effect. Scripture Reading; Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.  13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

I received a phone from someone through the week in which an expression was made, I am so shocked, I am so surprised, I did not expect to be treated in such a way by the church.  That prompted me to think and to pray and to observe what Jesus has said.  When he said, watch and pray, what did he mean? The history of Gods people has been fraught and surprise and shock and with disappointed hopes.  Why did the people of God become surprised, shocked and disappointed?  Because as always, they did not appreciate Gods preparatory counsels.  God in love has always prepared his people for every negative experience that would come upon them.  God warned Jacob and his sons and their offspring that they would be in Egypt in captivity for 400 years long before it happened.  How God prepared his people. There are different types of food that some people like and dislike. There are possessions that some people regard as treasure and others as trash. There is one regard of beauty and another regard of ugliness. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

To receive something with gratitude depends on how you see it.  You may have received a gift and the person who bought it thought you would like it but when you got it is was not what you wanted. The giver anticipated you would like it as they did. The Bible teaches there is a two edged sword, its double sided. It kills and it heals. The gospel can be a savour of life unto life or the same gospel death unto death. (more…)

The Church of God and its Role in Our Lives

Why you are attending church today?  What is your reason for being here and for being a member of this church?  In Christianity in general there are many reasons why people want to become part of a church but the main reason is for social interaction.  The human race is a web of human interaction and this is the predominant reason for church fellowship.  In this respect, the reason for church is for a sense of well being.  We like to have a lovely sense that we are Christians.  But there is also another reason why people attend church.  It is so that they can teach someone else something – they can teach others and this activity in itself becomes a missionary motivation.  People also attend church because they want to provide a certain environment for their children or because they want to stand different to other people.  Very few people are conscious of the real purpose for being part of God’s church. Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

7:2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

How far from home? The hymn is an early advent hymn that our early Adventist brethren sung. They thought Jesus would come in their time but here we are the third and fourth generation from there and still here. We are still not home. But how near are we? (more…)

Matthew 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; (more…)

Every day I wonder how many more rotations this earth has left before Jesus comes. Not many more rotations. We can sense and see the Bible tells us that Jesus is coming soon. Therefore we should always consider the things that are before us.

I ask the question, are you persuaded?  Before someone can be persuaded there is a fluctuation between things. Apostle Paul says I am persuaded. He is declaring there is no more double mindedness in his thinking; (more…)

Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of Lords and king of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

What is a gauntlet?  The word gauntlet is an armed glove used in medieval times.  The word was used for punishment or for a prize to run between two rows of men armed with clubs and weapons and was to come out alive.  Miriam Webster’s dictionary says: To run the gauntlet of criticism and censure, to endure an onslaught of trial. According to Jewish tradition Ezekiel was the founder of the synagogue. You won’t find the word synagogue anywhere in the Old Testament but there are plenty of references to it in the New Testament. Where did Synagogues come from? They were a place of instruction and where legal decisions could be made. The synagogue was important to Jewish survival during the Captivity and so we find Ezekiel in Babylon and it would seem that this is where the synagogue was first founded. But there were no sacrifices there, as these had to be performed only in the temple. (more…)

55:9 For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

When the heart is totally yielded to God it is possible to understand his ways. We need to discover another element of being in tune with God so that we can be submissive by understanding and knowledge. (more…)

The most distinctive features of the remnant are found in the churches of Revelation 2 and 3 – God’s remnant in all ages. The prophetic sketches point to Christ’s first advent spanning to the Second Advent as a particular point in time in Hebrews.

Hebrews 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (more…)

Luke 15:20 And he arose, and came to his Father. But when he was yet a great way off, his Father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

The bible says the prodigal son was a far way off. He was a long way. While he was a long way off the mind activity he had was, I will arise and go to my Father. The prodigal son had lost his mind. In verse 17 it says when he came to himself; (more…)

1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Heaven is described in numerous similitude’s and numerous examples and Christ in his life was always wondering how he could liken the kingdom of heaven to things on earth. To put the heavenly thing in an earthly context so humanity would understand. Christ wanted to make the truths of the gospel simple so he always compared it with something. This is where we get the parables from. The kingdom of heaven is like leaven and he describes making bread or the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. (more…)

Through the process of justification we enter the lifework of sanctification in the same way as Christ did.

John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

As Jesus sanctified himself he and the believer are one in partnership in this transaction. (more…)

What the bible says about women preachers…

By Present Truth NZ

From the creation of Adam and Eve, and the history of their Fall and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. God does not change, nor does His Truth change. Truth is not based on men’s opinions, or women’s opinions, or majority thinking, or popular custom or practice. Everything that is believed and taught and practiced, must be based on a “Thus saith the Lord.” Those who love the Lord will want to know and do God’s will, not their own will, nor the will of others. Even if all the world says that something is right, and God says that it is wrong, then it is wrong and can never be right. In this world we are to stand for the truth, even if we have to stand alone. But there are hundreds of thousands of men – and women particularly – who know what God’s will is on the matter of the ordination of women as preachers or elders, and they humbly take their position upon God’s simple requirements on the matter. With all the publicity surrounding cocaine use and other hard drugs, marijuana doesn’t get as much attention as it used to.

Yet an estimated 20 million Americans smoke it regularly-over three times more than use of cocaine.

Because smoking pot is so widespread, popular myths have sprung up about it. Many think marijuana is a harmless “recreational” drug. The experts disagree. If you’re thinking about smoking it, check the facts, not the myths, and think again.

Myth: Smoking marijuana is safer than smoking cigarettes. (more…)
